The Curriculum

The  Institute's focus is on helping participants broaden their perspectives, increase their job effectiveness and leadership capacity, and strengthen their management skills.  In order to achieve this goal, the curriculum embraces a combination of practical information, theory and broad issues.

The program objectives are addressed through a core curriculum required to all participants and through non-core electives.  In addition, there are a number of joint sessions for all participants scheduled throughout the five-day  program.  Core and non-core courses fall into the following subject areas:

The Institute week is an intensive, fully programmed week.  Participants have  very little free time.  After participating in the Institute for three consecutive years, graduates are awarded certificates in recognition of their completion of the  program.

The format of the Institute allows greater choice in course subjects with a  broad selection of elective courses.  Under the leadership of the  SII's Board of Trustees and the program's academic director, Dr.  Jeremy J. Siegel, Professor of Finance at The Wharton School, the curriculum is  continuously designed to meet participant's needs as our industry continues to  change.  The Institute is designed to broaden understanding of our industry  rather than provide a seminar in any one particular specialty.

A variety of session formats and teaching methods are utilized, including: joint session presentations; individual class sessions; small workshops; pre-course work; general sessions; panel discussions; case studies; teamwork; and other formal learning opportunities.  The quality and mix of speakers, panelists and workshop leaders are indeed unique.
