Expanded Securities Industry DataBank

To complement SIFMA's "Securities Industry DataBank" of NYSE member firms, SIFMA has launched a new "Expanded Securities Industry DataBank," which contains the income statements, employment and other financial data of the more than 4,800 NASD reporting broker-dealers.  Data coverage begins in the first quarter of 2001 and is updated quarterly. The data is aggregated into 14 sub-categories for NASD and other exchange members.  Provided in Excel spreadsheet format via email.

The two data bases (of NYSE-reporting firms and NASD-plus reporting firms) we are making available represent the first time data for ALL broker-dealers doing a public business in the U.S. is available on a quarterly, timely basis. Until now data for the entire industry were available only on an annual basis with over a one-year time lag in the SEC's annual report.

Data provided in the new Expanded Securities Industry DataBank will assist securities analysts, brokerage house senior management, and government officials in analyzing and tracking trends in the financial performance of the entire U.S. securities industry. This service captures significant portions of the securities business not included in the original Securities Industry DataBank: 67% of mutual fund sale revenues; roughly 45% of total commission revenues, 42% of pre-tax profits; 24% of total revenues and 23% of total expenses; 31% of total compensation paid; and 26%-32% of revenues from principal transactions.
